NIPT in der Schwangerenvorsorge: Erkenntnisse und Erfahrungen nach Aufnahme in die Mutterschaftsrichtlinien

The non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT) enables prenatal screening for specific genetic anomalies through the sequencing of cell-free DNA in maternal blood. The introduction of NIPT as a service covered by statutory health insurance in Germany in July 2022 resulted in significant changes in the maternity guidelines and consequently also in prenatal care. The application of NIPT as secondary screening is subject to specific conditions to facilitate cost coverage by the statutory health insurance. This article discusses these changes from a clinical and practical perspective and places them in an international context.
