Gender difference in the relationship between celebrity worship and Chinese adolescents’ binge eating: the chain mediating role of desire for fame and self-control
摘要
Through a survey on celebrity worship, binge eating, desire for fame and self-control, we recruited a sample of 748 Chinese adolescents (aged 11–17) to explore the gendered mechanisms linking celebrity worship to binge eating through the chain mediation of desire for fame and self-control. The results revealed a significant mediating role of self-control in the relationship between celebrity worship and binge eating behaviors in both genders. Moreover, this effect was more pronounced in girls than in boys. Additionally, among boys, higher levels of celebrity worship was associated with greater desire for fame, which was in turn associated with lower self-control and higher levels of binge eating. This study highlights the mediating roles of desire for fame and self-control in the relationship between celebrity worship and binge eating, as well as the gender differences.
