摘要

Movement is far more than physical activity, it is a fundamental driver of child development. It promotes not only physical health but also cognitive, emotional and social competence. Nevertheless, current data show that most children and adolescents in Germany fail to meet the activity recommendations of the WHO. Physical inactivity has become a major risk factor for obesity, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and mental health problems.

Pediatricians play a key role in prevention. Since 2025 the “exercise on prescription” for children and adolescents has provided a practical tool to encourage children and parents to adopt a more active lifestyle. This prescription forms a bridge between medical counselling and local sports opportunities and helps integrate regular physical activity into daily life.

Movement is therefore not an optional add-on but a medical and social necessity. Every pediatric consultation offers an opportunity to promote health through education, motivation and the “exercise on prescription” to lay the foundation for a healthy, active, and self-determined life.
