Update Ultraschall in der Kinder- und Jugendmedizin

Over the last 35 years ultrasound has become increasingly more important for diagnostics in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Advances in technical equipment and high computing power enable new applications, such as microvascular imaging, elastography and attenuation imaging, where the potential for diagnostics needs to be exploited. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is also becoming increasingly more important in pediatrics. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) enables rapid diagnosis at the bedside, especially in emergencies. Lung ultrasound offers a radiation-free alternative and supplement to X‑ray and computed tomography (CT) diagnostics and is increasingly being used in neonatology and intensive care medicine. The advantages of interventional ultrasound lie in the real-time imaging and high precision, without radiation exposure. The integration of these new developments into further training and the development of corresponding guidelines are desirable.
