摘要

There are various indications for treatment with a tracheal cannula in children. Due to the associated impairments and possible complications, these indications always have to be reviewed and re-evaluated with the highest possible accuracy. Due to the anatomy of children and the underlying disease the treatment in childhood is very different from that in adults. The fitting of a tracheal cannula is always an individualized process. Adaptation of the size due to growth, regular investigations to exclude complications and to evaluate the potential for decannulation are mandatory.
