Stuhlinkontinenz
摘要
Fecal incontinence is a serious medical condition that affects both physical and mental health. Due to its persistent social stigma there is significant underreporting by affected persons with an estimated global prevalence of up to 8%. An exact medical history and diagnostic evaluation are crucial in order to provide patients with optimal treatment. Initial management primarily involves conservative treatment, such as stool regulation, pelvic floor training and medication options. When conservative options are exhausted and patients have a high level of suffering, surgical interventions can be considered. The choice of surgical treatment depends on the underlying cause, the patient’s symptoms and the level of distress as well as the experience and expertise of the treating surgeon and requires careful consideration.
