<p>Hemorrhoidal disease has a&#xa0;high prevalence and, depending on the symptoms, should always initially be treated conservatively, especially as symptoms and findings do not show a&#xa0;regular correlation. A&#xa0;surgical procedure should be indicated only if conservative efforts fail and if the patient so wishes. The technically demanding reconstructive procedures represent the last resort in the portfolio of various surgical approaches to repair more extensive fixed findings of a&#xa0;prolapse. Given their potential for complications, these procedures, which are currently referred by law to the outpatient operating room, require advanced proctosurgical expertise and a&#xa0;cooperative patient who is ideally preoperatively preconditioned.</p>
