Ligaments stabilize body parts and transmit force. They are innervated and can cause pain. Pathologies can be structural or functional. Functional changes can arise from overloading and lead to pain. Functional syndromes, such as chronic ligamentous pelvic pain can cause unspecific chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) and are not attributable solely to a purely structural or psychological pathology. The diagnosis requires a holistic treatment approach.
