Humanes Papillomavirus, Herpes-simplex-Virus und Mpox-Virus aus proktologischer Sicht

Besides the classical sexually transmitted diseases caused by bacteria (syphilis, gonorrhea, chancroid ulcer and venereal lymphogranuloma), there are also viral infections which typically spread via sexual contact but infections without sexual intercourse are also possible. Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are the most common origin of sexually transmitted infections worldwide. More than 230 HPV genotypes have now been identified. More than 40 of them cause different forms of anogenital lesions. Furthermore, herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV 1 and 2) evoke painful anogenital and frequently relapsing infections. In 2022 the monkeypox (Mpox) virus joined the group of anogenital viral infections after an epidemic outbreak event.
