Komplette mesokolische Exzision von medial nach lateral

The complete mesocolic excision (CME) concept was published by Hohenberger in 2009 and has been recommended as the surgical standard in the German S3 guidelines since 2013. It consists of excision of the entire regional lymph drainage area with central transection of the supplying vessels, respecting the border lamellae of the excised mesos. The CME concept is independent of the tumor location. However, the operation differs significantly more from the previous standard operation in right-sided localizations than on the left side. This article describes the procedure for both localizations.
