<p>This paper presents a detailed description of a model-independent method for the direct measurement of the Υ(4<i>S</i>) → <i>B</i><sup>+</sup><i>B</i><sup>−</sup> and Υ(4<i>S</i>) → <InlineEquation ID="IEq1"> <EquationSource Format="MATHML"><math display="inline"> <msup> <mi>B</mi> <mn>0</mn> </msup> <msup> <mover accent="true"> <mi>B</mi> <mo stretchy="true">¯</mo> </mover> <mn>0</mn> </msup> </math></EquationSource> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\( {B}^0{\overline{B}}^0 \)</EquationSource> </InlineEquation> production fractions at <i>B</i> factories. The method is based on counting single- and double-inclusive charmed meson production at the Υ(4<i>S</i>) resonance, providing statistical tagging of <InlineEquation ID="IEq2"> <EquationSource Format="MATHML"><math display="inline"> <msup> <mi>B</mi> <mn>0</mn> </msup> <msup> <mover accent="true"> <mi>B</mi> <mo stretchy="true">¯</mo> </mover> <mn>0</mn> </msup> </math></EquationSource> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\( {B}^0{\overline{B}}^0 \)</EquationSource> </InlineEquation> and <i>B</i><sup>+</sup><i>B</i><sup>−</sup> events. This paper presents a detailed description of a model-independent method for the direct measurement of the Υ(4S) → B+B and Υ(4S) → B 0 B ¯ 0 \( {B}^0{\overline{B}}^0 \) production fractions at B factories.
